  4th of July Celebration - 2008
Sanderson and Terrell County really know how to celebrate an old-fashioned 4th of July!  The 2008 celebration was typical for this community.  The weekend began several days early as friends and family arrived for the festivities.  The 4th is usually celebrated on the weekend closest to the calendar date, and this year the activities took place on July 4th and 5th.
The two-day bash all started with the annual Fourth of July parade down Oak Street, ending at the Legion Hall where the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary provided a barbecue lunch.
There were ten floats, three antique cars, two antique trucks, three motorcycles, three golf carts and a “four wheeler,” two junior bicycles, two walkers and a wagon and the ever-present mule-drawn wagon.
It was led by a color guard by Boys and Girls State delegates, three sheriff’s vehicles, two fire trucks, an ambulance and a wrecker.
Activities on the Courthouse Lawn both days included food from several booths, games for children, an Old Timers Hour, ice cream contest, silent auction, class reunions and sale of autographed copies of a brand new poster, “Sanderson, Cactus Capital of Texas,” by Rick Vanderpool of Commerce.
On Friday an unveiling and dedication of the Terrell County WWI Airport History Marker took place on Highway 285 near the Highway Department Barns, sponsored by Terrell County Historical Commission.  Friday also saw the first of two OldTimer's Reunions, giving folks more time to renew past acquaintences and catch up on the latest family news.  Both days ended with a street dance between the Court House and High School, the first day with DJ James Poe and the second with a return by the Terrell County Boys.  Unfortuantely, dry conditions forced the cancellation of the traditional fire works display.
Fireworks or not, everyone had a great time.  Make plans to be with us next year for the 2009 4th of July Celebration.
